Markovich/A.M.P.: Tunes
Icebox
This is the Markovich entry for the Creative Commons Magnatune Lisa DeBenedictis Remix ContestI only found out about the contest two days before the closing date, and had one day to write, arrange and produce the track and an hour the next day to master it, so its a bit rough around the edges...
Based on the acappella vocal track of Lisa de Benedictis's "Below", I first jammed along with an electric bass, then added bongoes and guitar to get the core of the song up and running. After that, it was mainly a question creating the structure of the song. I felt the song should be going somewhere, that it should build-up to a stronger beat.
It would have been nice to spend some more time, re-recording parts and mixing, but times-up!
There seems to be about 200 entries to the contest, of which they are selecting 10 winners, and there is some amazingly good stuff there, so you won't see me on the podium, but I enjoyed the challenge.
This track was featured on the KXLU 88.9 FM's Alien Air Music show on August 14th
your disinterest draws me in
i’ll soldier on until you begin
to want me back
i lay awake eyes wide,
euphoria needles all inside
chorus:
down from the ceiling floating,
i hate to be this girl
see you sleeping
soundly far below
and i’m cold again
when the morning comes
little bird beneath your park bench
begging for the crumbs
…below
i’m high and low
i’m a stranger in this room
with its heat that doesn’t stay
and my snow tracks away from you
they get deeper every day
and i’m cold again when the morning comes
(chorus)
and i’m driving home,
soreness in my eyes
sun is hanging cold
in the january sky
…below
i’m high and low
boy of snow…
eyes of coal…
button mouth and frozen soul…
unaffected, ever cold…
no matter what i show
…below
i’m high and low
